WAIKAKA NOTES
MR J. POTTER FAREWELLED. (From Our Correspondent.) Mr F. Gutschlag’s barn, Greenvale, was the scene of a very pleasant gathering when a large number of friends gathered to bid farewell to Mr J. Potter, who is leaving the district and who has since been married. Dancing was enjoyed by all present, Mr E. Gutschlag carrying out the duties of M.C. At a suitable interval Mr D. Lawlor, on behalf of those present, presented Mr Potter with a travelling rug as a token of the esteem in which he was held. For the Greenvale Collie Club, Mr T. Hickey asked the guest to accept a pipe in recognition of his services to the . club and hoped that Mr Potter would be present as a competitor at their trials in future years. Other speakers were Mrs F. Gutschlag, Messrs Gutschlag, Whitefield, D. McKenzie, J. Newlands, L. Kay, R. McKenzie and A. Corcoran. Mr Potter suitably replied. The monthly meeting of the Loyal Waikaka Lodge was held in the hall on Tuesday last, N.C. Bro. H. Browning presiding. Nominations for the various chairs were received, the candidate to be elected next meeting. The Waikaka Ladies’ Hockey Club held their annual ball on Friday night in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The hall was prettily decorated with coloured streamers (green and white, the club’s colours) greenery and hockey sticks covered with the club’s colours, while the cup won by the club last year in the Eastern district competition was displayed on the stage. Tomlin’s Orchestra (Lumsden) supplied the music and Messrs A. Corcoran and W. Thomson ably carried out the duties of M.C’s. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr W. Cunningham and Miss A. McKenzie, and the statue dance by Mr H. Bennetto and Miss Mathieson. During the evening the competitions for the doll and box of chocolates were finalized and won by Miss Loma Turnbull and Mr J. Stewart. Shearei’, Horrell, Tweedie. Miss M. Pratt, Dunedin, spent the. week-end with Miss Cummings (FlemMr and Mrs A. Gerken, Ohai, have been visiting Mr and Mrs H. Rankin. Mr and Mrs J. Darling, Balclutha, spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs H. Rankin.
Miss E. Cummings is spending a holiday in Dunedin.
