CRIPPLED CHILDREN
NEED FOR AID.
PUBLIC MEETING IN CHRISTCHURCH.
(Pey United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 4. The need for a society to help the cripped children of New Zealand and of funds for the society to carry on its work were by speakers today at a public meeting called by the Mayor to stimulate interest in the Canterbury and Westland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. , . , The branch was formed recently by 15 members of the Christchurch Rotary Club. There was a large attendance at the meeting to-day and at the conclusion those present passed a resolution undertaking to become members of the society and pledging themselves to do everything possible to increase the membership. . Mr J. Mawson Stewart, president of the Christchurch Rotary Club, said it was not intended to make the movement a Rotary one. Rotary had made the first move, butt, when the society was established, Rotary would probably drop out, although doubtless some Rotarians would remain in the society as members. Another speaker said the society was not being formed merely to dispense the interest or capital of Lord Nuffield’s gift. A much larger income would be needed and this would have to come from members and from public subscriptions.
