WORK CEASES
BIG RIVER GOLD MINE. RESTORATION OF “CUTS” DEMANDED. (Per United Press Association.) Greymouth, June 4. The employees at the Big River Gold Mine, numbering 32, ceased work owing to the employers’ refusal to restore the 1932 •'wage cuts. Three conferences have proved abortive. The employers first offered restoration for underground men, the union asking the same also for the surfacemen. The employers then withdrew the offer, substituting one of a shilling a day increase all round which the Inangahua Miners’ Union regard as less acceptable than the company’s first offer, contending that as other local mines of the district in a paying position have restored the cuts, the Big River Company should do likewise. Six employees are surfacemen. The deadlock continues.
