BROADCASTING IN SOUTHLAND.
To the Editor. Sir, —I saw in the Times that Mr J. L. Passmore, a member of the Broadcasting Board ,has been paying a visit to Invercargill about radio matters for Southland. I hope the Southland Radio Club made it quite plain to Mr Passmore that Southland people are looking for a new YA station and that they expected it to be in Invercargill That alone would be a big help to the interference nuisance. We all know that the local body has a lot to contend with, but a new SYA, situated in Invercargill, would do away with all their worries and would give listeners a lot more pleasure and service. We would even be able to get the results of the local football matches here without having to wait for 3YA, as we have to do at present. Then there are the races, boxing and wrestling and other sports. Perhaps we might get a broadcast of some of them, but at the present time we get nothing at all. I am not against 4ZP. It has done its best to give us pleasure, but Southland people pay for the best service and it is time they got it. I wonder how many radio licenses are taken out in Southland for the year.—l am, etc. ADVANCE SOUTHLAND.
