The Duke of Leinster attended the funeral of his former wife, May Fitzgerald, and stood at the graveside beside her postman cousin and greyhaired women, her former fellow members of the Gaiety chorus. The Duke’s wreath was inscribed “To Gerald s mother, and the Marquis of Kildare’s wreath was inscribed, “With Love, Gerald.”
