Left-over Poems

—Commended— The birds sing very sweet, And seem to say, “Tweet tweet” The little lambs run with their mothers And often play with others. The lark sings up in the sky, A long way up—ever so high. ■ The farmers are busy working And hardly think of shirking. The flowers are very neat, And the scent from them is very sweet. The best of all is the anemone Which always dances when it sees me. —Cousin Nonr.an Hall (11), Aparima, Otautau, R.D. —Commended— The country life is always gay, And all the children love play, The air is very sweet, And the birds all repeat their songs so gay, As the children go to play The sky is blue, but the grass is green. The frisky little animals, The busy droning mills. I love the little birdies, That whistle all the day, Among the cherry blossoms, Feeling so mighty gay. They say I am a prize one. I do not like the showground. But I like grazing in the sun. 1 like the long grass in the meadow, For it is nice and juicy. ~.. • I’d rather be in the farm-yard, Playing with Mary’s Goosey.
