FALL OF 50 FEET
WORKMAN’S LUCKY ESCAPE.
(Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, February 14. Horace Greer, a workman engaged in the construction of a new bridge over the Manawatu river, narrowly escaped grave injury this morning when he over-balanced and fell 50 feet from the top of the arch span into the riverbed. Luckily he dropped into the deepest part of the river, where there was about eight feet of water. Coming to the surface, he began to swim, though dazed, and was pulled out by a workman. He received the attention of a doctor, several stitches being required in a deep cut in the top of his head and was able to proceed home.
