GIBRALTER REACHED

BATTLESHIPS IN COLLISION.

INSPECTION BY DIVERS.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.25 p.m.) Gibraltar, January 26. H.M.S. Hood and H.M.S. Renown have arrived. Naval ratings declare that the collision was due to the Renown allegedly not receiving sufficiently early the Hood’s signal to form line, resulting in the Renown, travelling at 18 knots, striking the Hood a glancing blow amidships. Although the engines were reversed, a second impact occurred as the vessels swung clear. It is also stated that the Renown’s ram is two feet out of alignment, probably indicating extensive damage below the waterline. Divers are inspecting the warships.
