SERIOUS POSITION

GISBORNE’S WATER SUPPLY.

EMERGENCY RESERVOIR EMPTY.

(Per United Press Association.)

Gisborne, January 25. The seriousness of the water supply situation at Gisborne was revealed in a statement to-day by the Mayor (Mr J. Jackson). The inflow from the headworks, even with assistance from an auxiliary supply pumped from the Mangaporke Stream, is totally inadequate to meet the needs of the borough. The emergency reservoir is empty, having had to be utilized this week when the supply for the headworks utterly failed. For the first time since its establishment 27 years ago the main reservoir on Tuesday last was empty.
