NEW SHIPS
GERMAN NAVY TEN VESSELS IN VIEW HEAVY COST (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) London, January 24. The Daily Telegraph’s naval correspondent says it is officially confirmed that Germany has now built or is building five pocket battleships, together with five cruisers, at a total cost of £31,000,000. This L: double the cost per ton of British naval construction, due to electric welding and the use of super-fine materials to save weight. The five ships have six Ilin guns and eight 6in guns, but in the later ships steam turbines and high pressure boilers replace the Diesel engines of the first ships.
