AMAZING FIGURE
OCTOGENARIAN FAITH-HEALER. POLICE CLOSE CHURCH. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) London, January 24. The Berlin correspondent of The Times says that Secret Police ordered an amazing figure, Joseph Weissenberg, an octogenarian faith-healer, to close the Evangelican Johannean Church, the property of which was confiscated. Weissenberg was a builder’s labourer. When the vetoed Weissenberg sect proclaimed its own divinity it attracted scores of thousands of followers and successfully fought many lawsuits arising from faith-healing, which . consisted of prayer and the application of a soft cheese called “quark ’ to the seat of sickness. His followers subscribed millions ot marks, with which Weissenberg built a settlement, “Peacetown,” including a temple in which the members of the congregation acted as mediums, voicing spirits, including Martin Luther and Prince von Bismarck. Recently the spirit of Frederick the Great said through a medium: “Holy Ghost, now known by the earthly name of Johannes .Weissenberg.”
