DUKE’S TOUR

NORTHERN DISTRICTS ARRIVAL OF SIR ALEXANDER YOUNG SUPERVISING DUTIES (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, January 23. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Alexander Young) arrived in Auckland from Wellington, en route to Russell, at the request of the Minister of Finance (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), who will be personally conducting the Duke of Gloucester through the northern districts during Friday and Saturday. Sir Alexander will remain at Russell for the purpose of supervising and directing the organization of the Royal tour in the northern province. Notwithstanding that the tour is entirely unofficial and more or less of a private nature, it requires direction to ensure that not only the police and transport, but the postal and telegraphic arrangements at the various points shall be adequate to meet the requirements of the Royal visitor and his staff, as well as the party and the Press. The arrangements in connection with the provision of adequate and sufficient launch facilities for deep-sea fishing for the Royal party are in the hands of the New Zealand Government, and part of the official duties are under the control of Sir Alexander.
