MOURNED AS DEAD

MISSING SOLDIER. DISCOVERED IN NEW ZEALAND. (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.10 p.m.) London, January 23. A letter en route to New Zealand is hoped to ease the mind of Percy Roberts, whose mother, aged 80,* has been mourning him for 19 years as dead. The Daily Express says Roberts in 1916 came home on leave and was reported later as missing and believed dead. Meanwhile Roberts was in New Zealand suffering from loss of memory. Recently he recalled his address here at Upton Park. Mrs Goodsail, of Auckland, forwarded an explanatory letter which reached his sister at Laindon Park. She had to break the news to the mother gently. She was overjoyed and both have written to Roberts and hope the letters will fill the blanks in his mind.
