NEW IYA STATION

OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY, POSTMASTER-GENERAL’S REMARKS. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, January 23 The official opening of the new IYA broadcast transmitter and studio building was performed to-night by the Postmaster-General (the Hon. Adam Hamilton). Mr Hamilton briefly reviewed the history of broadcasting in New Zealand. Statistical comparisons, said Mr Hamilton, showed that New Zealand stood relativel yhigh in “density” of listeners among the countries of the world; it was estimated one house in three had a radio installed and the prophecy that this proportion would be doubled in a few years might not be wide of the mark.

The new station, said Mr Hamilton, was the most powerful in Australia or New Zealand.
