WELLINGTON TO AUCKLAND AND BACK.

CANTERBURY RIDER.

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, January 23. Looking remarkably fresh and fit, although his eyes were bloodshot through lack, of sleep, Mr L. G. Lukey, the Canterbury cyclist, concluded his ride to Auckland and back when he finished at the Wellington Post Office at 7.46 o’clock this evening, after covering a distance of 924 miles in four days. He said he could have reached Wellington at the scheduled hour 6.30 p.m. but for the fact that he stopped at Levin to have a general clean-up and to get rid of a four-days’ growth of beard on his face. Throughput the journey he had no punctures and no spills. The machine behaved perfectly, Mr Lukey said. The cyclist left Wellington at 6.10 p.m. on Saturday and arrived at Auckland at 3.20 p.m. on Monday. He left there an hour later on the return journey.
