A meeting to arrange for the holding of the holding of the annual picnic was held in the Koi Hall on Monday evening. The date was fixed for Friday, February 1, and a committee was appointed, Mr A. Gow to be chairman, and Mr G. McCall secretary.

A very high wind on Tuesday did some damage to the grain crops, and to ryegrass not yet cut. A number of trees were uprooted in district plantations, and power board lines and telephone wires and poles were damaged, causing temporary inconvenvenience. The weather since has been unsettled and stormy, heavy showers falling each day. This is retarding shearing, which is already late this year, many farmers leaving their ewe flocks to be shorn at the time the lambs are drafted fat off the wethers. On January 15 residents of the district gathered at Glenkenich to take part in the laying of the foundation stone of the new Presbyterian Church. The moderator of the Mataura Presbytery, the Rev. W. G. Hannah, being absent on holiday, the Rev. T. G. Campbell, of Waikaka, was the presiding minister. After prayer and the singing of a hymn, the Rev. W. H. Norton, Tapanui, read an appropriate portion of Scripture. The minister of the parish, Mr M. J. McFadgen, then called on Mrs T. Crossan to lay the stone in position. Mr McFadgen, then read the dedicatory service, Mr Campbell offering the prayer of dedication. The address was given by Mr Campbell,

Mr B. Chittock on behalf of the church committee, presented to Mrs T. Crossan a silver trowel suitably inscribed as a memento.
