Health in the Home

(By a Family Doctor.)

•Ulcers in the mouth are painful and need careful treatment. They may be due to such varying causes as ill-health or an acquired disease, such as tuberculosis. ' . Where there is a chronic ulcer ot the tongue with enlargement of the glands in the jaw and neck urgent attention is necessary. Recently I saw an anaemic young woman who had an ulcer at the side of her tongue. The glands were not tender or swollen in any way. Examination of the teeth revealed a broken sharp-edged molar which was doubtless the cause of the trouble. This was removed by a dentist and the ulcer on the tongue quickly healed’ with a. mouth-wash of glyco-thymolin and warm water after meals.
