Autumn Styles

Dress designers already are turning their attention to autumn styles, and, judging by the attractive clothes displayed at a parade of advance modes in frocks, millinery and accessories, autumn should be a smart and colourful season. Many of the styles shown were designed by Madame Jeanne Cannot, and made in Melbourne, proving that Australian-made frocks can equal in cut and finish those from overseas, states the Melbourne Herald. Outstanding features of autumn styles will be divided skirts; buttons of all shapes and sizes used lavishly as trimmings both on evening ana day frocks; the Russian tunic effect introduced into costumes and dresses; the use of toning and contrasting feather quills to ornament both brimmed ana closely fitting hats, and finely checked tweeds for sports wear. Novel buttons were features of two smartly tailored suits. Brazil nuts ornamented a suit of maroon tweed flecked with red, while buttons resembling marbles, but known as catseyes,” looked very smart on the coat of an airforce blue angora ensemble beneath which was worn a short coatee of deep blue velvet. Cocoa brown delustred velvet fashioned a graceful cocktail frock, made on long sweeping lines, with wide bell sleeves. A glimpse of gold lame outlined the hemline, lined the sleeves and formed small revers when the buttoned neckline was turned back. With this was worn a beautiful brown marmot cape. The long lines of cherry taffeta evening coat, lined with black velvet looked vepy striking worn over a blac* tulle evening frock. The coat was so fashioned that it was reversible. Very lovely was a lilac taffeta evening gown, set off with a short cape of deeper toned velvet. A feature of the frock was the low cut decolletage, held in place with tiny velvet sleeves.
