DUKE’S TOUR KNIGHTHOOD FOR MR J. A. YOUNG PERSONAL SERVICES (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, January 21. A knighthood for the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister-in-Attendance, headed the list of honours for personal services conferred by the Duke of Gloucester to-night at the conclusion of the official part of his New Zealand tour. The Hon. Sir James Young, Minister of Internal Affairs, has been a Member of Parliament for Waikato since 1911. He was chairman of the Native Affairs Committee from 1912 to 1923, and has held the portfolio of Health since 1926. Sir James is a member of the Board of Governors of the Hamilton High School, and has been a borough councillor for 10 years, being mayor on three occasions.

Mr Malcolm Fraser, C.V.0., 0.8. E., Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs since 1932, was bom at Inverness, Scotland, in 1873. From 1893 to 1908 he was a clerk in the Land and Income Tax Department, and from 1908 to 1911 he was accountant to the Public Service Superannuation Board. He became Government Statistician in 1911, and represented New Zealand at the British Empire Conference of Statisticians, 1920. In 1916 he organized the ballot systems and registration under the Military Service Act. Mr Fraser has represented Wellington and New Zealand as a Rugby player.

Mr Ward George Wohlmann, 1.5.0., M.V.0., was bom at Invercargill in 1872. He took an active part in local football and rowing clubs. After training in the New Zealand Permanent Artillery he joined the Police Force as a constable at Dunedin in 1895, and served in both clerical and administrative departments in Otago, Southland, Waikato and Auckland. He became a sub-inspector in 1918, and from 1920 to 1922 was Commissioner of Police at Samoa. Later he was appointed inspector at Hamilton, and in 1926 was superintendent at Auckland. His appointment as Commissioner of Police was announced in 1930.
