KNAPDALE NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The final meeting of the. Knapdale Women’s Institute was held in the hall and took the form of a social afternoon and Christmas tree for the scholars of Knapdale and East Chatton schools. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. The hall was tastefully decorated with blue and gold streamers to match the new blue ana gold stage curtain presented to the hall by members of the Women’s Institute. The children enjoyed games and a treasure hunt, after which all adjourned to the hall. Each child was presented with a toy from the Christmas tree. Items were rendered by the pupils of both schools. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. A very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem. A very enjoyable concert and dance was held in the hall last Wednesday evening, the occasion being the annual school concert. Tennis. Playing at Knapdale, Mandeville beat the home team by 11 sets (87 games) to 5 sets (66 games). Following are the results (Knapdale names first): Combined doubles: Mathieson and Miss R. Jaffery 6 v. Knowls 6; Misses Wilson and Cross 3 v. Misses A. Knowls and Bruce 6. Ladies’ singles: Miss R. Jaffery 2 v. Miss MacLeod 6; Miss Wilson 3 V. Miss I Knowls 6; Miss H. Jaffery 4 v. Miss A. Knowls 6; Miss Cross 3 v. Miss Bruce 6. Men’s Singles: Mathieson 7 v. Smith 5; Tutty 7 v. Sheed 4; Fergie 7 v. Henderson 6; Graham 1 v. Cosgrove 7. With the second round completed the positions of the teams are:

Mr W. Gardyne is at present holidaying at Dunedin. Miss Ivy Scarlett has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mrs W. R. Brash and family left by car on Friday for Brighton, where they are spending the holidays. Mrs and Miss Smith, of Dunedin, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Hannah, The Manse, for the Christmas vacation. Mr and Mrs C. L. Hunt and Miss R. Cunningham, of Dunedin were recent visitors of Mr and Mrs R. L. Hunt, Malvern. Mrs J. A. Wilson, accompanied by her three children, Margaret, Joyce and Fraser, are enjoying a holiday at Kaka Point. . Mr and Mrs A. Gerken and their sons, lan and Melvin, motored from Ohai and are the guests of Mr and Mrs D. Gerken, Chatton. Mrs Annison, sen., Mr H. Annison and Miss McLean, of Dunedin, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Annison. Chatton. _______
