An additional wedding gift to the Duke and Duchess of Kent is a Maori battleaxe, the property of Mr G. E. Weaver, of Hastings. The presentation is to be made by the New Zealand Wool Scourers’ Association through its secretary, Mr Weaver. The axe is a particularly valuable black flint one, and has been pronounced by experts to be a very fine example of Maori craft. Mr Weaver has received a cable from Buckingham Palace, which reads: “The Duke and Duchess of Kent thank you for your kind telegram, and will acknowledge battle-axe on arrival."
