TALK ON MAORI NAMES. The members of the Spilt Ink Society. Gore, met on Tuesday, October 6, at the home of the secretary. Mr D. L. Poppelwell was appointed chairman and during the evening gave an interesting talk on Maori names and pronunciations. A chapter from a book of grammar compiled by “John o’ London” was read by Mrs E. C. Smith. Members submitted short humorous stories for competition. A vote was taken and it was decided that “Dirty Work at the Crossroads” by Kathleen M. For the next meeting members are asked to submit Christmas poems of not more than three verses of eight lines each.
