WORK FOR BOYS

EFFORTS OF WELLINGTON ORGANIZATIONS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, July 17. Satisfaction with the work being done by local organizations to place youths and boys in employment was expressed by the Employment Minister, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, to-day. The board, he said, was always ready to assist boys who were placed in work and although there had been numerous complaints about the lack of assistance given to boys and women, the work being done for them was in some ways more satisfactory than what was being done under the No. 5 Scheme. There was a satisfactory demand for boys who would undertake farm, work, he said, and in some districts boys were not available for the positions offering. However, farmers wanted boys who knew something about farm work and the committees in the main centres were assisting in that direction. Boys from Auckland were being sent to Ruakura for training and there was a movement in Wellington to establish a camp at Penrose Station, Masterton. He mentioned the work of the Y.M.C.A. in this connection and said the board was prepared to assist with training and an arrangement to establish the camp would probably be reached.
