BRUTAL ASSAULT
OLD MAN ATTACKED. SEVERE BEATING. (Per United Press Association.) Tauranga, April 10. Between eight and nine o’clock last night, a brutal attack was made on an old man, William Young, aged 79, who resides alone in a whare about four miles on the Tauranga side of Katikati. He was just going to bed when he heard someone enter the whare. He called out, thinking it was someone he knew, but he was violently attacked by the intruder with a pair of harness hames, and severely beaten about the head and hands. After dealing about 20 blows, the assailant decamped. Tire old man crawled along the road to his son’s place. He was then taken to Dr. Stenhouse, of Katikati, and this afternoon brought to the Tauranga Hospital by the St. John Ambulance, suffering from concussion, a fractured skull and injured hands. The police are investigating.
