WAIMUMU NEWS

The Waimumu Women’s Institute opened its new room at the hall on April 4 with a fancy dress and hard times ball. There was a good attendance and a very pleasant evening resulted. Music was supplied by Messrs J. Moore and S. Bringans, extras being played by Mrs McSweeney and Mr R. Peart, Mrs J. Miller dancing an Irish Jig. Prizes for the best fancy dress were awarded to Miss Amy Copland (pierette) 1, Miss Eileen Crawshaw (Hawaiian) 2. Mr Davis annexed the men’s prize and Mr Stack the prize for the hard times costume. Prizes for juveniles were won by little Miss Narby (bride) and Master B. Miller (Red Indian). Mrs P. H. Maclean has returned from her holiday spent in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs C. P. Parker have left for a holiday in the North Island. Miss E. Moore, who spent the Easter holidays with Mr and Mrs R. Johnston, has returned to Dunedin. Miss J. Hansen, Queenstown, is the guest of Miss Amy Copland.
