RESISTING SHAKES
PROTECTION AGAINST EARTHQUAKES. BY-LAWS ADVOCATED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, April 4. If a movement started by the Associated Chambers of Commerce is taken up throughout New Zealand, local bodies generally will probably be following the lead of the Wellington City Council in introducing by-laws governing building for the purpose of securing protection against earthquake. The executive of the Associated Chambers has communicated with its constituent chambers asking them to urge upon their respective local bodies the necessity of bringing into force reasonable regulations with regard to earthquake resisting buildings.
