METHODIST BIBLE CLASS.

During Easter the Young Men s Methodist Bible Classes representive of every class in Southland, held their annual camp at Edendale. Tire weather was ideal, and the fact that the Edendale Town Board had placed their pai vilion and grounds at the disposal of theexecutive contributed in no small measure to make the camp a success. Some forty-five full-time campers answered the roll call. The Rev. O. S. Fcarn, Invercargill, officiated as camp I captain, and was assisted by Mr J. i Brooks as deputy. Messrs Colin Craig I and L. Allott filled the positions of i secretary and assistant secretary re- ; spectively. On Friday evening the Rev. A. E. i Waite, of Bluff, delivered an address. | On Sunday morning the campers 1 heard the Rev. Wesley Long, of Eden- ' dale, deliver an address on the local ' Methodist Church, entitled "The Risen King.” The customary camp service ■ was held in the pavilion on Sunday : evening, when the Rev. O. S. Pearn - presided. Fie selected as his text, The ; Tragedy of the Trifle,” in which he vividly portrayed how one could be so near the Kingdom of God and, yet so far. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was administered by the Rev. O. S. Pearn, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Ashworth, Nightcaps. In the afternoon a Model Bible Class was presided over by Mr John Brooks. Mr Allan Dingwall, the Young Men’s Travelling Secretary of the Bible Class movement, acted as leader. The following programme was given at the camp concert on Saturday evening: Pianoforte solo, C. H. Olds, jun.; solo, "When I was a Boy at School,” the Rev. H. J. Malcolm; recitation, "The Torch of Life,” Master McEwan; solo, “Passing By,” Ruddyford Brown; recitation, "At a Cricket Match.” Clarence Shirley; mouth organ sojo, "Nearer My God to Thee,” G. Spain; recitation, “Charge of the Heavy Brigade,” C. H. Olds, jun.; solo, "The Floral Dance,” L. Allott; recitation, sketch, “Fond of Silence,” Russell Flicker; quartette, Lex Fraser, R. Brown, R. Wesnev and Allan Alsweiler; sketch, “A Radio Broadcast,” St. Peter’s and Central Classes; recitation, “Flea Powder,” P. Jaquiery; solo, “Juanita,’ G. Spain; mouth organ solo, John Brooks; recitation, “Lasca,” J. C. Craig; trio, Ralph Wesney, Lex Fraser and R. Brown; solo, Mr Perks; solo, Ralph Wesney; recitation, "Levinsky at the Wedding,” Mr Perks; mouth organ duet, G. Spain and J. Brooks; recitation, “Boswald’s Real Opinion of Dr. Johnson,” Allan Dingwall. At a convenient interval the Rev. O. S. Pearn presented the senior shield to St. Peter’s (Invercargill), who proved too strong for their opponents on the sports field. Mr Colin Craig suitably replied. Mr H. Orchard (Gore) rei ceived the Flerbert Smith Trust Cup on behalf of his class, who were the premiers in the junior sports section. The following were the total points recorded: Senior: St. Peter’s, Invercargill, 50; Western (Otautau), 10; Ohai, 9; Tuatapere, 3. Junior: Gore, 35; Central, 23; Bluff, 10; Western, 1.
