LODGE MEETING
LOYAL PIONEER OF SOUTHLAND. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Pioneer of Southland Lodge, No. 27, 1.0.0. F., was held on Thursday evening, Bro. A. C. Witting, P.G., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors. One member was admitted by transfer and two candidates were proposed for initiation. The principal business of the evening was the installation of the officers for the ensuing term. This was carried out by Bro. G. W. W. Dale, the newlyinstalled D.D.G.M. of the Southland Central District. Bro. Dale, who entered the lodge room to the sound of the pipes played by Bro. G. Dickson, was attended by Bros. I. A. H. Logan, P.G., as D.D.G.W.; J. Robertson, P.C.P., as D.D.G.R.S.; J. C. McNeilage, P.C.P., D.D.G.T.; W. Connors, P.G., as D.D.G. Chaplain; P. Fraser, P.D.D.G.M., P.C.P., as D.D.G.G., and E. M. Fraser, P.G., as D.D.G. Marshal. With the assistance of his staff, Bro. Dale then installed into their chairs the following officers of the lodge:—Acting P.G., Bro. A. C. Witting, P.G.; N.G.. Bro. D. A. Maxwell; V.G.’, Bro. FI. McKenzie; Recording Secretary, Bro. C. C. Harris, P.G.; Financial Secretary, Bro. W. J. Taylor. P.G.; Treasurer, Bro. G. T. Walker, P.D.D.G.M.; Warden, Bro. P. Bowen; Conductor, Bro. D. G. Brown; Chaplain, Bro. T. M. McKay; R.S.S., Bro. F. I. H Allison; L.S.S.. Bro. W. Lawrence; Supporters to N.G., Bros. E. S. Moyle and T. T. Dawson, P.G’s.; Supporters to V.G., Bros. T. Robinson and A. Crighton; 1.G., Bro. A. J. Robertson; 0.G., Bro. F. Johnson, P.G. The installing officers later received the thanks of the lodge for the efficient manner in which they had carried out the ceremony. Two delegates were elected to represent the lodge at a meeting to be held in connection with a proposed fire insurance scheme for Friendly Society members. A social committee was set up to carry out the various social activities of the lodge during the coming winter. Bro. A. C. Witting, who was one of the representatives to the recent Grand Lodge session held in Dunedin, conveyed fraternal greetings to the lodge from the Grand Lodge Executive and from the South Otago district and the Dunedin Lodges. At the conclusion of the meeting those present sat down to an oyster supper, during which the customary toasts were honoured and vocal and elocutionary items contributed by several members.
