ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY. The following are the acceptances for the second day (to-day) of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club's meeting:—

LADIES’ HOCKEY NORTHERN DISTRICT ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of delegates to the Northern District Ladies’ Hockey Association, was held at Balfour on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs Heath and Campbell (Lumsden), Buchanan (Dipton), Sanson and Bond (Waikaia), and Mrs Henderson (Balfour). Mr Heath presided and, referring to kindred sports, mentioned the honour which had been bestowed on the Northern Tennis Association by the selection of two of its players for the Southland team. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of congratulation to the Tennis Association and also to Misses J. and R. Wilson on their gaining representative honours. The president stated that both these young ladies were also keen hockey players. Mr Heath made reference to the death of the Rev. Mr Evans, of Fortrose, who was one of those responsible for the formation of the Northern Ladies’ Hockey Association, and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs Evans. The secretary presented the balancesheet for the year just ended and a credit of over £lB was shown. In his report the chairman stated that another successful year had been experienced. Six teams had entered the district competition, which was won by Waikaia, with Lumsden as run-ners-up. The McKay Cup tourney was also won by Waikaia. The district seven-a-side tourney held at Dipton, was won by Hokonui, after a keen struggle. The Fortrose tourney was won by a team from Lumsden. _ The speaker congratulated all winning teams, also those players who represented the district and those who gained places in the Eastern Southland team which played in the K Cup tourney. The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mr A. Heath (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs Sanson and Matthews; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. P. Scobie (re-elected); delegates to Eastern Southland Association, Messrs Heath and Matthews; auditor, Mr R. T. Wilson. April 28 was fixed as opening day for fixtures. The annual seven-a-side tourney will be held at Riversdale on a date to be arranged at the next meeting. Messrs Heath and Campbell were appointed a fixtures committee, and the appointment of selectors was held over until next meeting. The affiliation fees for each team were fixed at 10/6. It was decided that the McKay Cup competition will take the form of a yankee tourney at Waikaia on May 26. It was recommended that delegates apply for the next K. Cup tournament to be held at Gore. TENNIS OTAGO TEAM SELECTED. MATCH AGAINST CANTERBURY. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, April 6. The following lawn tennis team has been selected to represent Otago against Canterbury here on April 14:—McDougall, Pearce, Guy, Rawlinson, Boddy and Deaker, Misses Pattison, Barton, Partridge, White, Fraser and Bamford. CRICKET NELSON v. MARLBOROUGH. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, April 6. In the Newman Shield cricket match Nelson in the first innings made 289 (A. Newman 157, Neale 65, Freeman 20). Creswell took six wickets for 86 runs. Marlborough (the challengers) in the first innings had lost six wickets for 103 (Hastilow 24, O’Sullivan 24) when stumps were drawn.
