BISHOP OF LIVERPOOL

LORD HUGH CECIL’S COMPLAINT.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) London, January 8. Lord Hugh Cecil, in reply to the Bishop of Liverpool, refers to the Bishop’s irresponsible autocracy, adding: “I protest against the refusal of an inquiry. The question must be decided by the Church. To whatever authority I can bring my complaint I shall continue to urge it. I trust to procure an authoritative declaration that those who reject the deity of Christ must not preach in our churches.”

Refusing the request of Lord Hugh Cecil to take action against the Dean ot Liverpool. the Bishop of Liverpool explained that the Dean had expressed regret for inviting a Unitarian, the Rev. L. Redfern, to preach at the assize service in the morning, which is regarded as one of the regular Cathedral services. The Bishop added: “I fully approved of the sermons of Dr L. P. Jocks at non-liturgical services in the evening as special services to which, the Anglican cathedrals can offer hospitality.”
