BRITISH CONSTITUTION
SIR STAFFORD CRIPPS'S VIEWS.
“WANTS BRINGING UP TO DATE.”
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) London, January 8. Sir Stafford Cripps, speaking at Chiswick, said: “The British Constitution wants bringing. up to date and made really democratic. If there is any opposition by vested interests of any sort against the declared will of the people it is the duty of the Government to sweep it aside.” Replying to a questioner he said the Crown was essentially democratic because it was bound to act on the advice of Ministers, who were responsible to the House of Commons. Therefore there would not. be any difficulty whatever from the Crown.
A Black Shirt rose in the gallery and shouted: “Hands off Buckingham Palace!” then walked out.
