HEALTH CAMP

PARTY AT POUNAWEA. CHILDREN SETTLE DOWN. A correspondent, writing from Pounawea, states:— The 1934 Health Camp is now a fact. The weeks of untiring preparations by the energetic committee have set us on the way to a happy and beneficial stay at Pounawea. The advance party on arrival in camp were provided with a delightful afternoon tea by local residents. The main party had to break their journey at Balclutha where they were the guests of a very kind committee of ladies at tea in the Sunday School hall.

All reached camp tired but happy and looking forward to camp life. Saturday was necessarily a day of organization and arrangements. Pounawea was blessed by sunshine in the afternoon and one and all spent a happy time on the beach paddling and boating. Sunday was overcast and drizzly, but the rain did not dampen the spirits of the party. The weather later improved enough to allow of a ramble on the beach. The children have settled down very quickly and all feel confident that the 1934 camp will be a great success. The staff would like to express their appreciation of the kindness of local residents who have already done so much for the camp. Owing to the dry spring fruit and vegetables are late in coming to hand and the camp would gratefully appreciate any donations of them. These could be left with Messrs Meek and Oughton, Esk street.
