AUSTRALIAN EMBARGO.
MODIFICATION EXPECTED.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Co; /right.) (Rec. 11.40 p.m.) Canberra, January 5. Following a conference being held at Canberra on Monday, next at which health experts and representatives of the Department of Agriculture will be present, it is believed that the embargo on New Zealand fruits entering the Commonwealth will be greatly modified and that apples from the South Island will be permitted into Australia, as reports have been received that certain South Island districts are free of disease.
