OVER THE ICE

FLIGHT MADE BY BYRD.

STORM AFTER LANDING.

(Special to Press Association —From the

Byrd Expedition.)

Aboard the Jacob Ruppert, January 4. Rear-Admiral Byrd made a successful flight on Wednesday. He said that in his opinion the white, unknown space on the map which seemingly enclosed the Ross Sea on the east was just water-borne ice. Any further aerial enterprises in this area for the present would be attended with great risk. Two hours after the plane landed the whole horizon was blotted out by a snowstorm. Any attempt to land on the drifting ice-pack would be extremely dangerous.
