ISOLATED IN VILLAGE
PLIGHT OF 300 PEOPLE. SNOW BLOCKING APPROACHES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Nice, January 4. Three hundred people, including British and American tourists and 30 children, are isolated in the village of Beuil at an altitude of 4770 feet, where they went ski-ing on Sunday. All the approaches are blocked by ice and snow. The food supply is exhausted and many are sleeping in cowsheds. There are no medical supplies. The isolated people are suffering intensely and an attempt to succour them will be made with an aeroplane fitted with runners and carrying a doctor and food. A NUMBER RESCUED. (United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) Nice, January 4. A number of the 300' skiers have been rescued by army tractors called in to release motor cars on the frozen road. The rest of those marooned are awaiting French alpine soldiery who are making their way to Beuil on skis.
