VICTORIA’S GOVERNOR

LORD HUNTINGFIELD’S APPOINTMENT. FAMILY WELCOME NEW LIFE. London, December 23. Lady Huntingfield, .wife of the Governor-designate of Victoria, told the special representative of The Sun to-day that, immediately after Christmas, she would begin her preparations for going to Australia. Lord Huntingfield, accompanied by his eldest son, the Hon. Garard Vanneck, has sailed for Madeira for a complete recuperation from his bout of influenza, but will return in a fortnight. “We are both looking forward with the keenest and most pleasurable anticipation to the new life in Victoria,” said Lady Huntingfield. “My husband is very sensible of the high honour paid in entrusting him with such an important post. Our two sons and two daughters, who are accompanying us, are all excited at the prospect of living in the country which their father has so often described, and which, they feel, they know quite well. “Personally, I am eagerly anticipating my association with Victorian women. I have already been told and have read much about the splendid work of the Country Women’s Association and the bush nursing movement. Their objects appeal to me tremendously.” Lady Huntingfield gave this interview to The Sun by long-distance line to London. She spoke in crisp, clear English, with no trace of American accent.

Lady Huntingfield, who married the baron in 1912, was then Miss Margaret Eleanor Crosby, daughter of the late Judge Crosby, of New York.
