GIRL KIDNAPPED
GANGSTERS THREATEN INJURY.
MOTHER RECEIVES MESSAGES.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) New York, January 3.
A panic-stricken mother reported to the police to-day that she had received a series of telephone threats that her daughter, an 18-year-old cabaret entertainer, who is missing, would either be killed or maimed. The girl was known to be an associate of gangsters and was scheduled soon to testify against one in an important criminal case. The first telephone call declared that the girl would be killed, while a later one said: “Your daughter will be returned in 48 hours with her tongue cut out. You talked to the police when we told you not to.” HOAX PERPETRATED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) New York, January 3. To-night the police, in tracing telephone calls, found the missing girl in a friend’s apartment. The police expressed the opinion that she perpetrated a hoax so as to avoid appearing in Court.
