THE WORLD’S WARS

COMPLICATED STATISTICS

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, December 28. Two Harvard professors to-day presented to the American Association of Science what is claimed to be the “first statistical study of the war.” Nine hundred and two wars from 500 B.C. to 1925 are charted by the use of complicated statistics recording the number of nations and men involved. Wars at various times in history with their lengths, casualties, etc., are produced. A “use index” for the last nine centuries ranged from 2.67 in the twelfth to 13,735.98 in the first quarter of the twentieth, whereas the index for the nineteenth was only 318.91. The conclusion drawn by professors is that war is inevitable.”
