RESERVE BANK

URGENCY PROBABLE SECOND READING OF BILL POSSIBLE AMENDMENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, October 28. It was stated by the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes to-day that the Government intended to take urgency for the second reading of the Reserve Bank Bill on Tuesday and dispose of it at that day s sitting. He said that the committee stages would also be taken next week with urgency. In the committee stage chief interest is likely to centre round the clause outlining the directorate,, as there is a definite conflict of opinion in the ranks of Coalition members on this point. Several members are of the opinion that Governor and deputyGovernor should be appointed by the Govemor-General-in-Council, so as to give the State absolute control of the institution. Mr W. J. Polson has already stated that he intends to move an amendment in that direction and there are at least three or four other Government members who hold the same view as he does. At the same time they may be somewhat chary of casting votes against the Government if there is any prospect of the Government being defeated on an amendment which Labour members are almost bound to support. The Coalitionists who want this change made in the Bill are hopeful that the Government will make them some concession on this clause, but this does not appear altogether likely.
