“QUITE TRIVIAL”
DIOMEDE INCIDENT. MINISTER’S ASSURANCE. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 28. Regarding the incident on H.M.S. Diomede on Labour Day when certain New Zealand ratings sang the “Red Flag,” the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stated to-day that he had been in communication with the Commodore concerning the published reports and had ascertained that the matter was quite trivial and would not have been reported but for the published statement. The Minister deplored the wrong impression which may have been created by the undue prominence given so small an incident.
