GENERAL NOTES. The schooner Britannia sailed for Stewart Island at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Bluff Harbour Board's tug Awarua left for Port Chalmers for overhaul early yesterday morning. The Wainui left Wellington early on Saturday morning and is due at Bluff this morning. After loading mails and cargo for Australia she sails to-day for Melbourne. The Union Company's steamer Waimarino, from Dunedin, berthed on Saturday morning and afterwards began working general cargo. She is due to complete and sail today for her northern ports via Dunedin. Those engaged in discharging the Nolisment’s cargo of superphosphate have had an unenviable time since the work was started, as windy weather has prevailed throughout. On Sunday calm conditions had returned with warm sunshine and a continuance of the latter weather would be appseciated on the waterfront. The Union Company's Waikouaiti is scheduled to clear Lyttelton this evening for Bluff direct, arriving here on Wednesday morning and sailing on Thursday for Sydney. , , The Union Steam Ship Company advise that the Wingatui cleared Auckland on Friday for Wellington. Lyttelton. Dunedin and Bluff. Due at Bluff on Thursday, the vessel will sail on Friday for Wellington and Auckland, via ports. The Union Company's transpacific freighter Wairuna cleared Los Angeles on October 13 for New Zealand ports, including Bluff. The vessel is due at Auckland on November 7 and at Bluff on November 16. On completion of work at Bluff the vessel will sail for Melbourne the same day. Messrs J. G. Ward and Company, local agents for the A. and A. line, advise that the City of Bedford sailed from New York on October 9 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is carrying the usual transhipments for Bluff. The Government motor ship Maui Pomare, with fruit from Apia and Niue Island, is due at Lyttelton to-day and at Wellington the following day. Cable adbice has been received that the C. and D. Line steamer Port Campbell cleared Las Palmas on October 21. She left Auckland on September 16 for London, via Cape Horn and Las Palmas. Advice has been received that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Bowen, which left Sydney on September 6, arrived at Hull on October 11. The Port Bowen made the voyage direct, and is the first of the wool vessels to reach the United Kingdom. The Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Maori left Lyttelton on Wednesday night on her last trip in the inter-island service until after next Easter. The Wahine, which arrived at Wellington on Wednesday morning from Lyttelton, took up the Maori's running on Thursday. The turbine-electric ship Rangatira, which has been under annual overhaul and survey at Wellington, resumed in the service on Wednesday night. The Oceanic Company’s liner Monterey, en route from San Francisco and Los Angeles, left Honolulu on October 23 for Pago Pago, Suva. Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne. She is due at Auckland on November 3.

The Nankwa Maru, en route from Japan to load scrap iron in New Zealand, has reported by wireless that she now expects to arrive at Wanganui to-day. A tanker, the name of which has not yet been announced, with bulk motor spirit for the Shell Oil Company, is expected to arrive in New Zealand about November 10 from Singapore. Seven vessels discharged meat cargoes in the Port of London during the week ended September 7th. six from Australia and New Zealand, the s.s. "Akaroa,” "Tairoa.” “City of Tokio.” "Canonesa," “Port Gisborne” and "Rangitiki” and one from South America, tire s.s. “Stuart Star." Altogether 340.000 carcasses of lamb and mutton, 75.000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork and rabbits and approximately 50,000 packages of sundries were distributed to the London Market and throughout the country or placed into cold storage. During the week ended September Sth. 1,171 vessels, representing 1,032,720 net register tons, used the Port of London, 553 vessels (838,809 net register tons) were to and from Empire and Foreign Ports and 618 vessels (193,911 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic.
