RIVERSDALE NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (From Our Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Riversdale Women’s Institute was held in the Drill Hall on Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs T. Campbell, presided. After the singing of the Institute song and creed, the president welcomed all new members and friends. After a good deal of discussion it was decided to form a library, Mrs G. Green being appointed librarian. A special meeting is to be held on November 6th. to meet Mrs Kelso, the organising secretary of the Dominion who will give an address on “the work of the institute. The president was appointed delegate to attend and report on the federation meeting to be held at Gore. The rest of the afternoon was devoted to community singing and various competitions, items being contributed by Mrs R. Walker, Misses A. Macpherson, K. Jopp and V. Dillon. The winners for the scone competition were Mrs W. Mortimer 1, Miss Clark 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Muir, Bannerman and Clearwater.

On Labour Day a most successful Bible Class Rally was held, classes from all parts of the Mataura Presbytery being represented. The Rev. J. Newlands on behalf of the Riversdale and Wendon Bible Class extended a welcome to the visitors. Mr McFadgen, Kelso presided and an interesting address was delivered by the Rev. M. Gow. An adjournment was the made for lunch.

On resuming for the afternoon session Mr A. McKay presided and introduced the Rev. G. Hannah of Knapdale, who gave an inspiring address. During the proceedings Mrs R. Walker delighted the audience with a solo. After dispensing afternoon tea an adjournment was made to the Recreation Grounds when a short sports programme was put through under the supervision of the Rev. Hannah. Mrs E. O’Brian is at present spending a holiday at Dunedin.
