TREASURY BILLS

RECORD LOW INTEREST. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 23. The British Treasury yesterday carried out its weekly borrowing at the lowest rate ever recorded. Forty-five million pounds worth of three months’ Treasury bills were placed at an average discount of 4/9 l-5d per cent., less than I per cent. As these bills fall due towards the end of December when money is usually in abnormally keen demand in Lombard street, they constitute an exceptionally popular maturity. It is understood the banks secured most of yesterday’s bills.
