Mr F. G. Stevenson has returned to Invercargill from an extended holiday ni the North Island. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Messrs H. T. Lovell (Hawera), A. Howard, H. Hanson and W. Piercy (Christchurch), Colonel Nichols (Maheno), C. lorns and J. Redding (Wellington) and W. Slowley (Dunedin). A British Official Wireless message states that Mr Robert Mitchell, Minister at Montevideo and Ambassador designate at Santiago, has been appointed by the King a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. The resignation of the harbourmaster Captain D. McDougall, was received with regret at a meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board on Friday. Captain McDougall, who was formerly a member of the pilot staff at Port Chalmers, has been 15 years in the service of the Timaru Harbour Board.

A motion of appreciation of the services of Mr John Gilkison, first president of the Southland Aero Club, was carried at the annual meeting of the club last evening. It was mentioned that Mr Gilkison had not sought reelection to the committee of the club owing to pressure of other duties. The services of Mr E. McNeill, who resigned from the committee during the year, were also mentioned.
