MEETING OF CREDITORS
FORTIFICATION LABOURER’S FAILURE. ADJOURNED SINE DIE. A meeting of creditors on the bankrupt estate of Robert George Poultney, of Fortification, labourer, was held yesterday afternoon before the official assignee (Mr 11. Morgan). Bankrupt was represented by Mr F. G. HallJones. . . A deficiency of £175 was disclosed in bankrupt’s schedule, all the debts being owed to unsecured creditors. There were no assets. Following is a list of the principal creditors: A. N. Pope (Tokanui) £4B; N. Burgess (Tokanui), £3O; Shirley Bros. (Tokanui), £l4; Bauchop and Co. (Tokanui), £18; 11. Brough (Owaka), £l5; J. Parker (Tahakopa), £5; Mr Pascoe (Tokanui), £lO. In his sworn statement bankrupt said that in 1930 he was not in a bad Way as he was working at Hogg and Company’s sawmill at Tahakopa. He was not financial, but he was not so far behind that he could not have made good had the mill kept going. However, they slackened hands and he was put off and he could not get work for some time. He then took on woodcutting, sending it to Dunedin. He managed to do all right until he cut out the slabs and was forced to get more somewhere else or he would be out of work again. He then went to Tokanui and got plenty of wood there, but with bad weather and bad roads he was not very successful and at the end of 1932 the wood cut off altogether and since then he had made practically nothing. As his creditors were pressing him he was compelled to file. In the last two years he had had one or two accidents and had lost a lot of time through sickness. In addition he had lost the sight of one eye, which prevented him taking on some of the work which he did previously. He had had the use of a firewood plant which belonged to his son-in-law. After bankrupt had been examined by the assignee the meeting was adjourned sine die.
