I * AN ANNOUNCEMENT by WOOLWORTHS In announcing the pending opening of our new Store, we feel that the following facts j will be of interest to the citizens of Invercargill. j THE COMPANY: This New Zealand Company already successfully i operates seven Stores throughout the Dominion. | Every share is held by New Zealanders and Australians. I STAFF: Realising that' a large measure of our success depends on the service given by our Staff to ; customers, we encourage our assistants by pay- ; ing wages, in many instances, much in excess of the rates laid down in the Shop Assistants’ Award. .For example—no assistant in Woolworths receives less than £1 per week and furthermore j 206 female employees (99 Seniors and 107 ■ Juniors) out of a total of 303 receive above i Award rates. We have by concessions and privileges ; bettered the working conditions of our Staff ! generally. For example last year every j Woolworth assistant was granted one extra j week’s holiday on full pay. Our advertisement for shop assistants appears elsewhere in this issue. In accordance with the Company’s policy we are engaging the staff from the residents of the town in which our Store operates. © I : BUYING POLICY: since opening our first New Zealand Store positive preference has been given to New Zealand made Goods, and to goods made within the British Empire. To-day, 93 per cent, of our turnover is made on British Empire Products, j Our seven Stores already serve 15 million customers annually. This huge turnover permits us to buy in quantities, which bring surprisingly good quality products at low prices. J SELLING POLICY: We have confidence in the quality of our goods. § So much so that every line carries our Money Back Guarantee. This means that if, for any ' reason, an article purchased does not give satisfaction, complete and absolute, the purchase money will be cheerfully refunded without question. Goods are openly displayed and priced for easy comparison. You may walk through any Woolworth Store and not be asked to buy. Cash registers are installed at every counter to ensure quick service. . GENERAL:" During our trading in New Zealand we have been able to pass on many savings made possible by mass buying and modern merchandising. As each new Store opens our buying power is increased ! making it possible to offer still further savings. We will continue in our efforts to ? give better values.
