ITALIAN AIR SQUADRON
INVITATION TO VISIT SYDNEY. HEAVY EXPENDITURE INVOLVED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, July 21. It is doubtful if the aidermen of the City Council will endorse the Lord Mayor’s cabled invitation to General Balbo to visit Sydney. Labour aidermen oppose the proposed visit and Aiderman Walder, chairman of the Finance Committee, pointed out that to make provision for the entertainment of the fleet in the event of the invitation being accepted the council would have to pass a special grant of about £15,000 to £20,000. There was no provision for such expenditure in the estimates for the current year. The Chicago correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that General Balbo’s fleet may visit Australia later by an eastern route.
