PACIFIC RELATIONS
CONFERENCE AT BANFF.
IMPORTANCE TO NEW ZEALAND.
(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, July 21. The advantages to be gained by New Zealand from the fifth biennial conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations at Banff, Canada, next month were stressed at a farewell tea tendered the delegates this afternoon. Messrs W. Downie Stewart and H. F. Von Haast and Miss M. Saton, who are to attend the conference, were the guests of honour, the other delegate, Mr Walter Nash, being unable to attend. , . , Miss N, E. Coad, president of the institute, said New Zealand was sending away a splendid party. The organization they were to represent was an important one, its object being to create a spirit of sweet reasonableness among the peoples of the Pacific. The recent troubles in China and Japan, she observed, could not be overlooked here. Mr Downie Stewart said he hoped the conference would be a profitable one. The questions to be discussed were far-reaching and difficult and New Zealand was deeply concerned. Dr Guy H. Scholefield announced that Mr Frank Milner, principal of Waitaki Boys’ High School, and Mr H. P. Richmond, of Auckland, who is at present in England, would also represent the Dominion.
