TARIFF TRUCE
DURATION OF CONFERENCE. AGREEMENT AMONG POWERS. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 20. Referring to the tariff truce during an answer to a question in the House of Commons to-day, the Financial Secretary for the Treasury, Mr L. Hore-Belisha, said that under the terms of the resolution adopted by the organizing committee of the World Economic Conference, the governments concerned had agreed that they .would not adopt any. new initiatives in the matter of tariffs before June 12 or during the proceedings of the conference, except that, in the case of any individual Government, power was being reserved to withdraw at any time after July 31, 1933, on giving one month’s notice to that effect. In the view of the British Government, which subscribed to that resolution, it remained bound by its terms during any adjournment of the conference unless its proceedings had been finally concluded.
