Kindergarten Council
A meeting of the Free Kindergarten Council was held in St. John’s schoolroom on Monday, July 10, when Miss Birss presided over the following members:—Mesdames Eastlake, Checkoffs, Edwards, Betteridge, A. Wilson, W. Wilson, Simpson, Grant, Che wings, Aldridge, Carman, and McKeever, Misses Selby and Isaacs. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The reports from the directors of the three Free Kindergartens were very satisfactory, the attendances keeping up well for the winter months. The South Kindergarten is holding a bazaar on July 27 and 28, and the committee is asking for donations from council members. The minutes of the fourteenth executive meeting of the Free Kindergarten Union of New Zealand were read and proved most interesting. It was decided to limit the age of children attending the kindergartens to five years of age. A jumble sale is to be held in St. John’s schoolroom on Saturday, July 22. Accounts amounting to £2 6/9 were passed for payment. This being all the business, the meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
